Data Messages

Privacy Policy

Messages is the communications app inside Data, owned and operated by Brian Goegan. This policy describes Data’s current Messages and Gmail features and this public informational site.

Access And Use

Texts use a private connection to the owner’s authorized Mac Messages setup. Gmail connects directly to Google when the account owner authorizes Data.

The Gmail feature requests the gmail.modify permission to read, search, and organize mail, access attachments, create Gmail drafts, and send mail. The Windows computer running Data and its authorized browser process Gmail metadata, message content, and attachments to provide these features.

Local Storage

Text history and attachment metadata are cached on the Windows computer in a database protected by filesystem access controls. Data does not encrypt this text cache. Text attachments are fetched from the Mac when requested and held in the browser for viewing or saved to the download location you choose.

Gmail OAuth client setup and tokens, server-side email drafts, and prepared MIME message copies are encrypted using Windows user-scope Data Protection API (DPAPI). Data decrypts them when needed to provide the email features.

Browser email drafts use localStorage and are not encrypted by Data. These drafts can include recipients, quoted message content, and attachments encoded as base64. Access to the browser profile can expose these copies.

Google And Other Recipients

Google receives authorization requests and Gmail provider operations, including outbound email and drafts saved to Gmail. When you send email, recipients and their email providers receive the message.

The Gmail features currently do not send email content to AI providers, use it for model training or advertising, or sell Gmail data.

External Email Content

Remote email images are blocked until you explicitly load them. If you choose to load external images, their hosts receive network information such as your IP address and browser request information. Opening an external link contacts its destination website.

Retention And Disconnection

Saved email drafts remain until discarded or their local data are removed. Discarding a draft does not remove earlier prepared message copies. Prepared copies and the send-protection ledger currently have no automatic expiry. The ledger contains request identifiers, hashes, and outcomes, without message bodies. Ordinary file removal does not guarantee secure erasure.

Disconnecting Gmail removes the local tokens and account field. It retains the encrypted client setup, local drafts, prepared previews, send-outcome ledger, and browser copies. Disconnecting does not revoke Google’s access grant or delete messages in Gmail.

You can revoke Data’s access in your Google Account’s third-party connection settings. Revoking access does not itself remove copies already retained locally. See Google’s instructions for managing connections.

Google Limited Use

Data’s use and transfer of Gmail information follows the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.

This Public Website

This site provides information only. It receives no mailbox credentials or mailbox content and has no sign-in, forms, or analytics added by Data. The hosting provider may process technical request data to deliver and secure the site. Following an external link contacts that other service.
